INDEXAreas/Streets that still look 80s
8 years, 10 months ago - Simret Cheema-Innis
Hi All,
I'm currently looking for areas or streets that can still pass for being in the 80s.
It's for a music video based in the 80s where we're looking to shoot a couple walking down a street together.
I was wondering whether anyone knew of areas that still had an 80s feel.
Thanks

You could try the Wimbledon Studios backlot - bit run down, and will need a bit of love, but parts of it feel frozen in The Bill

Thanks Paddy, that's brilliant. I was also looking at Digbeth as I thought Brum might be easier to get away with in terms of filming? It's a small set up, not very big cameras or anything.

They did Wozy, but were bought out by a new company that operates in a part of the building and have a skeleton team looking after the studios at some attractive rates on an almost dry hire basis.

This is very useful to know in terms of attractive rates as I'm looking for a large studio to create a cyber love hotel room.

Hi Simret, they have 2 fairly decent sized stages plus offices and build spaces, parking, backlot, etc., you should be able to get a grand a day fairly easily for a stage, then see what you can get thrown in.
Considering LH2 will cost you £4k/day, it's a deal ) although LH2 is, without question, the better facility!

Wow that's a lot of money, I might go down the rehearsal studio option since my budget is £500 a day. I will need three days. It's also important to have access to facilities like showers etc. It's for a short film.

Give them a call and see if you can do a deal - if the space is free and they can get £1500, they might bite.
Then again the spaces might be bigger than you need, and paying for unused space is expensive. LH2, for instance, is 31 x 44 metres, with an 18m grid, that would be an insane size for a bedroom in a love hotel ;-)

Well, the thing is, we're looking for a space where we'll need to rig up for some pretty complex intricate shots. So, space is crucial, but yes, not insanely massive as you say!

LH2 was used for a catherdral interior recently, so it may be overkill ;-) Wimbledon stages about half the size, still may be overkill as you can still build a full house set in one.

That's useful to know. I think I'd better take a visit! I'm going to need to get cracking with finding/confirming a studio location soon. Why Paddy you're just full of knowledge, thanks for this!
