I know this question keeps coming up but maybe things have moved on? I need to buy a camera to shoot a documentary that we hope will be broadcast and have between £3000-£4000 to spend. Any suggestions? thanks

If you don't need slowmo, I'd have a look at a second hand C300 mark I or C100 mark II with prores recorder.

Any broadcast ENG cam will do if you can attach a proper glass on it. I really enjoyed the JVC LS300 last time in the Middle East because we shot a lot at night and it held extremely well under low light conditions. It's within your budget, can record standard 50mbps but also 120mbs data so more than enough for broadcast criteria. Shoots 4K, very portable with proper 2 x XLR audio and it comes with histogram, ND filters, zoom in function within prime lens (without any crop as its over 4K censor) latest free firmware upgrade includes shooting slow mo (120fps). With a basic metabone adaptor (£10 on amazon) or little more expensive speed booster, you can put ANY lens on it. Its micro 4/3 super 35mm censor that you can shoot many pictures without any crop! Pros and Cons. It doesn't have a great viewfinder so like most cam ops you could get yourself additional zacutto or similar but the rest is comparable to Sony and Canon guns. Though the cards are much cheaper. It uses micro SDHC and SDXC to record 4K. I think this would be the best cam within that budget or as B cam + you can shoot flat gamma curves in J log and grade in DaVinci later, or if you can chip a bit more cash and think C300 and/or FS7 or FS5 are the obvious choice. Here is my handheld recce from last year if interested. https://vimeo.com/149278451
