Paddington in Peru, a 2024 banger, didn't make the cut. Do you agree/disagree with the 'critics' list?

I’ve only seen a couple of films, but one of them I’d agree with was All of Us Strangers… Just really well done, beautiful performances and I always like seeing screenwriter characters (such a procrastinistic lot we are). I HATED Poor Things (sorry everyone else). I mean YES costume/production design all interesting and clever etc but the film itself was just not funny (never found any humour despite reviews). I’m also kindof over this storyline of ‘woman conquers in the end’ that’s meant to mean a film is amazingly feminist… Bollocks! Heard amazing things about Soundtrack to a Coup d’etat and really want to see that. But absolute fave for the year (saw it on Netflix - had no idea it was in the cinema) was Emilia Perez. Omgggg. Brilliant. So original in every single way.

Also my friends are in the mood to watch some really OLD SCHOOL romance classics over xmas etc.. Casablanca style. Will gratefully take any recommends for that.. (I did suggest Breakfast Club.. cos there is KINDOF a romance.. but that didn't go anywhere. sigh.)

Best films this year for my money are The Sweet East, The Beast, Riddle Of Fire, La Chimera, She Is Conann, A Different Man, Love Lies Bleeding and The Substance. Grandted I've still not seen quite a few films i'd like to see, but I'm surprised that The Sweet East and Riddle of Fire never make it into any of these lists, neither does Conann but that is less surprising as it is pretty arthouse and not Mandico's best, but still very original and interesting.
