Best way to location scout on a budget?

11 years, 10 months ago - Chelsey Burdon

Hi Shooters!

Relatively new Producer/Director here looking for a bit of advice when it comes to finding the perfect location for my upcoming short.
I've found some great, suitable places through location agencies, but simply cant afford their rates. What I need is two rooms within one house- Bedroom and an open plan Kitchen/Dining area. My own personal networks aside I don't know of many other ways to source a place. 2 day shoot. Needs to be in London- but the zone or proximity to the centre isn't too much of a problem. Realistically, I have about £500 to spend so that puts most agencies out of the question.

Any tips?

Thanks

Hi Paddy,
Thanks for the response. There was one agency in particular that seemed very against negotiation. But I will shop around a bit with that idea and see if I can't strike a deal somewhere.

Have you actually asked the agencies if they'll do it for that price? £500 isn't to be sneezed at, and the agencies don't get paid if nobody uses the location. You might be surprised.
