Bolex 16mm Camera Crash Course

11 years, 10 months ago - Derek Abel

Hi fellow filmmakers,

A friend of mine would like to know if anyone here can offer (for a price) a crash course on a 16mm Bolex camera?

He is based in West Hampstead and is available preferably Friday or Saturday.

Anyone interested in making a quick buck and can offer a crash course on the Bolex?

Please email me if you are interested.

Thanks

Hi. Here's another 16mm Bolex tip: some old TV lenses are also C mount and I found some great ones when looking around, although avoid ones with protuding rear elements as these will foul the prism on reflex models. Also those with wide bases may not fit certain turrets. Otherwise it widens one's choice. A brilliant camera for undercranking and again, looking around, you may find an intervalometer to do this but remember that shutter speed is set at 1/30th on single shot.

Although I'll contact directly, it may benefit other SPers if I comment about caution in buying a 16mm Bolex. Take care that it doesn't have double sprocket wheels as many older models do: only single perf stock remains available. Cheers, Franz

Thank you for your reply.
My friend managed to sort it out in the end.

Hi there, I run an introduction to 16mm Film Production course at South Thames College in Wandsworth that begins on Friday 24th January. We use the Bolex H16 camera on that so it might be of interest?
