Building a Team, Funding a Film

9 years, 6 months ago - Alex Southam

I'm looking to build a creative team to pull the trigger on a film I am currently attempting to gain funding for on kick-starter. I'm a first time Feature Director looking to make connections with individuals with a range of skills from working with practical effects, producing, logistics and whole lot more. This is a link to the funding page in order to get some context with regards to what I am trying to accomplish (without giving too much away of course) https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/908951336/driven-dead-a-feature-film

Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated. I'm really just looking to make the creative connections, in the hope to make the best film possible through working with talented people.

Much appreciated,
Alex

Hi Alex,

At this stage, the only relationship you might need is with a producer/line producer/PM to help with your budget - all of the other crew will come if you have money to spend!

Don't forget shooting in Utah means using local units, so there's little point people from the UK getting involved for that. All you do is increase your production costs and have a while load of US work permits to arrange, plus a load of hotels to pay for (never underestimate the costs of logistics!). On bigger budgets, I still use local units for local knowledge, local kit, local legal compliance and to save money!

Just a couple of thoughts for you. The project sounds fun, even reminiscent of Duel!

I'm in the process of attempting to find a producer with a similar vision, in the hopes of crafting a better film (as im sure you aware, you need strong foundations to create a film).

The only elements of production taking place in the UK are things such as Concept art and story boarding. I'm trying to keep costs as low as possible, thus creating more of opportunity to try find ways of being creative with limitations on funds.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate you taking the time to respond :) Duel is a stupendous piece of film-making, one of Spielberg's best if I may say so.
