Just wanted to let everyone know that Nexus Cast & Crew Network will be inviting a select number of actors from lower socio-economic backgrounds to take part in 2x group workshops via Zoom on the most effective ways to prepare and film a self-tape audition.

These workshops are being facilitated alongside the audition and selection process for Actor Jam 2023, our annual actor’s showcase in front of industry peers & professionals.

The workshops will be run by The Actors Workshop Nottingham & Nexus.

If you are selected to participate, you will receive the following:
– 2x online workshops hosted by Tim Bryn Smith (The Actors Workshop Nottingham) and me to help you prepare your audition tape for the Actor Jam, free of charge
– monologue/scene suggestions and/or feedback on suitability of the suggestions you’ve presented at the workshop
– a bursary to cover your travel expenses to the Actor Jam regardless of whether or not you’re selected to perform. If not selected, you will still be able to take advantage of the networking, and you can put yourself forward for the ‘golden ticket’ where one audience member will be drawn from a hat to perform at the end.

Two participants will be put straight through to the Actor Jam based on the tapes submitted for feedback in the workshops. The rest will have the chance to redo their tape based on the feedback provided, and resubmit to be considered.

This opportunity has been created to help level the playing field and ensure that actors can still be in with a chance of participating in the showcase even if they have not been able to afford training and other artist development opportunities.

Important dates:

Workshop 1: Saturday 30th September
Actor Jam auditions open: Sunday 1st October

Workshop 2: Saturday 14th October

Audition deadline: Saturday 21st October (3 weeks after open)

Line-up announced: Thursday 2nd November (5 days after judging closes, 2 weeks before event)

Showcase day: Thursday 16th November
