Can anybody suggest an outdoor, unmanned, quiet(ish) London station to film at with just one camera and 3 cast? No time to request permission.

I want to take advantage of the snow, and therefore have no time to request permission. We'll be discreet and quick, just four people tops, one camera hand held. Just don't want any trouble from security guards etc. I know rail stations require permits, but this is guerilla and I just don't have time to apply before the snow vanishes.

Thanks.

Try Ladywell SE4, four stops out of London Bridge. No one around on a Sunday. In a cul de sac. Little Victorian look on the out side. Done it myself .

There are 3 halts on the Greenford branch line that are all unmanned: Drayton Green, Castlebar and South Greenford.

Hi Jeff,

You could try Maryland, one stop from Stratford towards Shenfield. It's not a pretty station but it's always dead and I have never seen any staff there. If you get there and hate it continue out on the line as other stations might be ok too.

Good luck!
Cheers
Ida

Anybody have advice re: filming inside a ticket office/alternatives that look like a train ticket office?
TFL are no go unless you pay something like £1200 per hour(!) to use one of their closed off stations...

rather than trying to detour around people and costs, etc. the simplest and legal way is:
1. Once you have chosen your station, approach them and ask if you can film there. As long as you DO NOT USE A TRIPOD, you are legally allowed to film w/o a license if you are not making any money or you are a student. Tripods are not allowed on any platforms. (Don't know why, it's just the law).
2. Call the local police and let them know you will be filmng there and that you have permission. They might swing by to see you are who you say you are but that is all. They are usually quite nice and supportive if you are at an unbusy platform/station.

DSLR out towards Excel Conference Centre are quiet and unmanned but it is one phone call to get permission so there is always time to arrange it properly. You end up making it harder for others if you get caught and wind up the authorities .....

Try Thames Ditton. As far as I remember ther's hardly ever anyone there.

Your only chance is the Epping and Ongar Railway - privately owned, nicepeople. You should give them a some money - they are all volunteers.
