Can anyone read my short film script?

9 years, 11 months ago - Kieran Freemantle

I have written a short film, a drama and I was hoping someone would be able to read it and give me notes. I want to make sure it reads okay and see if I'm going in the write direction. I can send it either as a PDF or a Dropbox link. Any help I can receive would be appreciated and the more detail feedback I can have the better.

From what aspect? The story or the dialogue? Or even the grammar? Sometimes the story can be good but the dialogue stilted and unnatural. I don't mind a look.

What type of feedback are you looking for? On the writing? or on the potential for a producer to option/buy it? Do you need notes on how to improve it or just where the issues are?

I doubt you will get extensive feedback / notes for free. It's not something that can be knocked in 5 minutes. There are some great services in the market for such extensive reports - but you have to pay for them. What are you prepared to invest in order to improve your writing? That's what I would be asking myself.

I'll help you if you want to email it across? I'm a writer/actor/director myself but it's always good to read people's work. I've given notes on plays and film scripts in the past for colleagues. sally.oliver@hotmail.co.uk

Hi Kieran,

Please feel free to send your script over to me for feedback (rasconnell@gmail.com) - I'm also a writer, straddling the semi-pro line with a short film rattling around some festivals. In that respect, I could also point you towards some decent and inexpensive script competitions in the UK and at various festivals around the world.

Here's hoping you get some useful feedback from the people you've already sent it to.

I think what you're asking is from what you've written can anyone professional or non professional tell if you have a good theme are the characters strong enough. And have you managed to get your what you wanted to say across. Good drama is a portrayal of strength of character. And strength of character comes from feelings being put into directions or actions that the actors can relate to. example: john's frstartion slowly built and as it did so the pencil he was holding snapped. And as it did jonh realised that he needed to change and also change the situation. All the frustartion he'd been feeling finally snapped and so did the pencil he was holding. Your partner has been cheating on you. How do you first react. He says soething and you suddenly realise all these years he had been having an affiair. or maybe you got it wrong and start to have doubts about him, then feel guilty. how do you portray the feeling of guilt. this is a good scripted drama. strong feelings usually based on your own experience. it's often where good drama comes from. good use of eng and showing strong feelings about the character in situations. it's emotion, lies, deceit, hurt, guilt, anger, love, abuse. contrasts between strong and weak characters. how to use them portraying corruption, violence, love, hurt. these are just suggestions. it's usually conflict that portrays drama. love versus anger, then hurt and recovering. arguing, reconciliation. i'm not professional or a drama writer my writing's comedy. events that shape character's reactions, the unexpected.

Hi Keiran I can help. If you email the script over to me using the email in my profile I will get back to you. I am a writer/director and know how important it is to get objective feedback about a project you have been close to.
Best Neil

I want to say thank you to all the people who have offered help. I have messaged a few people so I am just waiting to hear from them. I'm sure I will ask again if I come up with another draft or writer another film.
