Pierre et Vacances hotel was very good for the money and not too far out although, yes the late night thing is a bit annoying, you can always find people to share taxis out that way

I agree with Ivo, only in Cannes, taxi is very expensive, I lived in nice for the first 5 days and it was very tiring , if you live far you must rent a car, with is inconvenient too as you can't drink)) and have to pay for parking, and there is no parking spaces, I would recommend to cooperate with those staying in Cannes and rent a room in a house or a flatshare, according my experience I finished every day around 2-3 in the night! There are lots of networking things and interesting parties and the last train from Cannes at 9 pm!)) so if you have a screening at 11, you know...

We have a room free just a 15 min walk to door of Palais. A nice place. Send me an email if you'd like to know more.

I tried a hotel 30 mins out one year, and you really don't want to do it, if you can avoid it.

Public transport stops before the parties do, so you'll spend a fortune on late night taxis, quite apart from anything else.

Cannes tourist info were surprisingly helpful when I tried them - sometimes it's easier when you're on the spot, so if you don't find anything before, be prepared to book further away and move in. When you're there you can often find a floor to doss on, or walk into tourist info and speak to them.

I did that and got a great room, right in the centre, in a hotel that caters for the French equivalent of Saga!

We stayed in an ApartHotel in Antibes last year - self-catering, a bus and a train into Cannes, roughly 30-45mins each way. 1Euro bus ride a time, 15Euro train ticket for the week. Hotel was the price of a Travelodge.

I stayed in Antibes for last year's Cannes, you could check out there for places, it's only about 10minutes or so on the train to Cannes from there.

Tessa, email me. We have a couple of vacancies in our apt 5 mins walk from the Palais. Mo March 18 to 21. Staying outside is a pain in the neck, because one of the big things about Cannes is being able to walk home so you can stay out as long as networking demands it.

Plenty of average hotels with reasonable availability in Nice near the station, easy train into Cannes.

Cannes Festival, Cheap.

Pick one :-)

I looked at this a few months back and TBH the best bet for costs seemed to be to drive down and base about 1-2 hours outside Cannes.

If you want to be in the mix, you'll need to pay up.

THAT SAID I recently used AIR BnB for the first time to stay in London last weekend and it's def worth a try as AIR bnb peeps don't (yet) seem to worry about demand based pricing :-)
