INDEXCannes - best ways to connect?
8 years, 3 months ago - John Wate
Hi there,
I have read some helpful blogs and stories on the Cannes experience and thought I give it a go myself this year after hearing some encouraging talk from producers. I was hoping to get access to the Marche du Film - but rules say that you have to have a theatre release within the last three years to be eligible to sign up - which I don't have. I am a freelance director / DoP from Tokyo with some scripts / potential projects but also out for basic networking. Can any of you give me some advice whats the best way to get connected in Cannes? Or is it pointless without a badge? I hope there are other ways than just hanging around in the hope for some lucky access to a party ...
Thank you for any advice
Cheers
John

I went a a
Couple of years ago with a project and got the registration. You can pick this up form Cannes when you are there. The important thing is to line up meetings which you can get from the Cineado database which you can join for a year anyway. Everyone who will be in Cannes
Will e there and you can trawl through
To find people you would like to meet. The pass will help you get into the official places, but. I thing stopping you meeting in cafes. I am going for a couple of days this year and buy a days pass when I get there

Personally I'd strongly recommend going with an accreditation as otherwise you're just one of the outsiders swelling the streets. Some hotels won't even let you to the bar without accreditation. You may be in time to apply for the Short Film Corner which will get you some kind of accreditation (I'm unsure of the current setup but it certainly used to be full marche access) for €85.

Thanks guys! That's all good info. - actually some other members had also pointed out that I don't need a marche badge - just the normal accreditation - I guess I simply overlooked that. And that short film angle is a good idea too For people with similar ideas like me - a few festivals (like Cannes) include in the Cinando yearly membership for free which is of course great (question is what comes first?abit chicken and egg - but when you need you need i guess). I am still tied in Japan for the moment and only returning next week Monday so pretty much just before Cannes starts with hardly anything prepared except some development papers. Will give it a thought or better invest the money into getting better prepared ... THANKS
