INDEXConverting project from FCP6/7 to FCPX: problems?
10 years, 5 months ago - Lyn Webster Wilde
I have just cut a short film on FCP6 with my editor but we needed to convert it to FCPX so that the DP could grade it. We downloaded the necessary Apple software and at first all seemed to be well. However, on closer examination, there were various glitches in the converted version - boards appearing, missing shots, title not there. At the moment, editor and DP too busy to deal with this but I wondered if this is something others have come across and whether I should leave this conversion business alone and find a way to get it graded on FCP6 or 7.

You could try 7toX, a Mac app that does just what you need. Available on the Mac App Store

If you're in a hurry and If you have picture lock you could simply export the edited film from FCP6/7 and import the single edited file into X for grading.

Also, if your colorist uses DaVinci Resolve or any other of the major grading tools, they should be able to handle the XML from FCP 7 just fine.

Yes, Matt, there are dissolves and superimpositions, which is why we went the 'proper' route.

We did use 7toX, Stephen, but it didn't work too well! I don't have a colorist, and now my DP has gone on holiday, so I am going to try to find someone else to help.

(Obviously not ideal if there are transitions and things to deal with)
