The answer will be 'it depends', however if you think the sound is weak, sort it out, make the film the best it can be. That may mean ADR/Foley and a remix, all of which take time and skill, but the cost of the tools is nothing these days.

Some festivals will accept anything with an entry fee attached, which is why "it depends", but you're not happy with the audio so why not make yourself happy?

don't enter with a 'shotgun' approach to loads of festivals. you'll get nowhere unless your film has been funded by certain bodies. i would think about the theme of your film and try to identify smaller specific or local festivals which fit. hope that helps.

I would say there's a couple of scenes where the guy needs the dialogue re-recording (particularly the first scene). We can hear him but because the other person in the scene is recorded (or dubbed) clearly it feels imbalanced. it wouldn't be too hard a job. Generally the audio in the rest of the piece is good.

(Here's another thought which has nothing to do with audio and you're welcome to ignore, but personally I'd lose the (*spoliers) shot where the sheet is put over the woman. I think you tell that story much more neatly in the shot which follows with the ring and the scarf on the ironed empty bed...and it's less staged than the covering the body shot)

Good little film that. Yes, I agree, the sound in the hospital could have been slightly improved on him but it's really not too bad. Some shots could be tightened up perhaps.

Hi,

I've been on the judging panel for Meters International Film Festival (a great opportunity to watch a lot of films with a critical eye). Your film is certainly good enough to be entered but you could make it better.

Sound - agree, bit muffled in the first scene as the guy is facing away from the mic. Quick ADR on that will work. Overall the hospital sounded too echoey, and that could be because of the lack of other noise (atmos / atmosphere). If you have an atmos track, add it. Also music helps to mask sound glitches a great deal, so maybe consider that.

Cinematography - good. Nothing to comment really. As someone else said consider if you need the sheet being pulled over the woman, and also dropping the scarf on the camera seems odd. Tighten up on the edit and try to get to ten minutes.

Festivals - if you have any doubts about your film, try to remove them. You will, or should, see all the problems and, if you do, so will others.

Overall though a good film, nice to see, and a good story.

Thanks for sharing / asking.

And now spotted that you did "studio" recording - which explains why the sound level is so high and good (and the odd sniff in the sound that doesn't seem to appear on her face).... definitely, re-record the guy.
