9 years ago - Stefano Nurra

Hello,

low budget short film Hum urgently needs a derelit/abandoned factory/warehouse located around London or in South England in general.
We do have a budget for the location, anyhting in mind?
All we can find is around 1000£ per day or more, do you know anythng cheaper than that?

thanks!

You could see if Wimbledon Studios has anything? They've got 2 stages but also a disused backlot and a load of other unused space

hey Paddy, thx for your reply mate.
Problem is we need something looking more like this... https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=shoreham+cement&client=firefox-b-ab&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjOjvmIiILOAhWqAMAKHf3uD6oQ_AUICigD&biw=1680&bih=945

if we go through locations' agencies they start charging a lot so we need to bypass them somehow

Alas you hit a big problem quickly - safety. Genuinely derelict locations are dangerous and don't have power. You'll have to drag along extra gennies, draw attention to yourselves, etc. Just about impossible to insure your shoot as you cannot risk-assess it properly.

Agencies will have made sure the places are basically sound, likely have some on-site steward to open up and lock up, probably still have power, etc., not be derelict for security purposes. Talk to an agency, tell them your needs and budget, they may have somewhere that'll do the trick and do the deal for you. If an owner isn't happy to do a deal through an agency, they're unlikley to respond to an urgent request from someone with unknown bona fides.

Guerilla filming option (but not all the health and safety issues and insurance difficulties of that - as well as having an open set)....

I guess you already know http://www.derelictlondon.com/ - but if you don't, you may want to have a look for inspiration.

Try 'Ugly Duck' in East London. They are lovely people, do time banking as one option of paying your way and have an industrial room in one part of their building. Used a lot for films so they're used to the drill too... Good luck!
