DJI RONIN NOISE

10 years, 8 months ago - Alwyne Kennedy

I've bought a DJI Ronin 3-Axis gimbal. Even when perfectly balanced, it makes a noise when just sitting motionless on its stand. The power usage figures can show as zero, and I can even kill the motors, yet it still makes enough noise to be audible from several feet away in a quiet room. It's nothing to do with the stiffness settings - they can be set to zero and it still makes noise like a hard drive getting busy mixed with a slight tinny whirring and a tinny chirruping.

I've discovered that if I kill the motors using the controller App, then turn the Ronin off, then restart it, it starts with killed motors and is silent. The noise then doesn't appear until I manually move the gimbal. As soon as I turn one of the axes with my hand, the noise appears (even though the motors are still killed and the gimbal offers no resistance).

Have I bought a dodgy one, or are they all like this? The noise is excessive, in my opinion.

I've used the Ronin a few times, and have DJI gimbals for drones, they shouldn't make that much noise. DJI products have a fairly high failure rate, I've been lucky, but I know lots and lots of gimbals get returned.

Thanks for answering. After a lot of trying, I finally got DJI to respond properly. They said they would pass my issue over to their service place in Germany, but I've heard nothing since. So I contacted the online store I bought it from and they invited me to send it to them, and they would forward it to Germany. However, they said turnaround was typically 6 weeks, so I am instead going to do a chargeback on my credit card.

BTW DJI asked me to make a video of the issue, which I did -

You might have to turn your speakers up loud. When I bring the mic in close at 3.08 you can hear the unwanted noise. (Sorry about the sound of cars passing my house).
