Do I need permission to film trade marks that just happen to appear in public / street scenes ?

Hi,

I'm making a short which involves a number of shots in a town centre, where there will be some well known shops / hotels in the background. There may also be buses passing, with advertising of well known brands on the side. Question ; do I need permission from the shop / hotel / brand owners, even though their brands only appear in a general street scene ? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Nick

No. You are shooting on a public street.

If you were shooting a big Commercial fiction feature film & there were any negative connotation by attaching your scene to the brand, maybe. But this is not the case here.

Legal, you do not.

Blur everything in frame except your subject just to be on the safe side.
