INDEXDoes anybody know if government permissions are needed to show/distribute a documentary filmed in Cuba?

Hi there,
I was just wondering if there are any kind of laws that don't allow you to distribute, show a documentary of ethnographic nature which has been filmed in Cuba.
Many thanks for your help,
Adeline.

No, Britain has had excellent diplomatic relationships with Cuba right through, the Americans were the ones who got jumpy, but that's changing too, and they're about to open up fully. And even if we had no relations, you can distribute and exhibit whatever you like as long as you get a BBFC rating.
Friends are out there right now prepping for the Stones gig :)

Oh thanks a lot, so this means I only need to submit my documentary to the BBFC to get a rating without any prior contact with the Cuban government, I guess then I would need a filming permission in Cuba even if it is a very reduced crew, right? many thanks, Adeline.

As for shooting in Cuba, that's an entirely separate question - doubtless you'll need permits etc., that's one for the Cuban authorities. You will need a Cuban fixer to get you access and arrange stuff, if you have money I used to know one and can give you his details (he doesn't do freebies and anyway you'll need to pay a bunch of people for access, location permits, etc)
BBFC charge for ratings process, but you asked about distribution and exhibition, so the same applies as to every other theatrical/DVD distribution deal. Don't even worry about that until you've got a distribution offer.
