INDEXDoes anyone have experience with commercial sponsorship/product placement and crowd funding

I am looking for funding for a short film whose story features communications technology and am thinking of approaching a commercial company in that area for sponsorship. Am also considering crowd funding. Does anyone have experience in either of these areas and could offer helpful advice please?

Hi Rob,
Many thanks for this. I have a meeting later today with my producers, where we will discuss and get back to you and take up your kind offer of advice please if we have any further queries. Is this your agency? http://www.welcometocreature.com/

Hi,
We're a creative agency that has some experience with the former (getting brands involved in sponsorship of short films) and it really depends on the nature of the project: budget, track record, story, time. You will need to shape a proposal for the brand that defines exactly what they're going to get for their money. A friendly planner/strategist at an agency should be able to help you to do that, although generally speaking going directly to the brand is more successful than going through an agency, as agencies' business model is predicated (rightly or wrongly) on their ability to generate creative work themselves and not simply to behave as match-makers. As a rule of thumb, if you're asking for more than about 5K you might have to sacrifice a certain amount of "creative freedom", try and add some auxiliary value-adding activity you could make happen beyond the film itself and think a bit about how the film matches their marketing objectives. Less than that and you can probably afford to take a more "take it or leave it" stance. If you're talking about less than a couple of grand it might be worth considering talking to brands' PR partners rather than their marketing guys as they're more likely to have a pot of "fun-money" that doesn't need to be anchored to any marketing strategy. However, all of this is fairly time intensive, so if you've only got a month or so to raise the funds it might not be worth your while. This is all very vague, but if you want to pick our brains about the specifics of your project, we'd be happy to help.
