INDEXDoes anyone know a professional 'Video Games' designer?

Dear all,
I made a micro-budget feature film that went on to win three Indie film festivals, two of them in America, but I couldn't get Distribution for love or money! That is another story!!! So, as I've been told the concept and the story is quite original (stunning femme fatale kills her boyfriends for money) I thought it would make a great video game: 'chumps try to kill a girl who is more stunning than Angelina Jolie, except she get the better of them each time!'
I've posted on Facebook and asked just about every filmmaker I know, but no one! By the way, you try getting through to Rock Star Entertainment or such like? Forget it!
Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Just for reference, game development is at least as expensive as moviemaking. It is still largely financed via the same model too, the studios. I suspect they're where you'll need to door knock. Get the pitch fleshed out a little, some concept art, character development, game story arc, etc.
As a game concept, it's actually rather funky and needs doing properly. GTA meets Tomb Raider.

Thanks Chris, appreciate the feedback. The film has a highly original story so there wouldn't be that much development and it would have to emulate the film. But I hear what you're saying, just like studio animation is takes dozens of man hours and money to develop a video game. Thanks for the message. Regards, Richard

Hi Cleo,
Thanks very much for getting in touch, I feared I wouldn't hear from anyone.
I think I am looking to distribute on console, PC and tablet, but I think a mobile might be too small. And I think I am looking for a designer and a developer as new storylines need to be created and new inventive ways for our 'femme fatale' to attack and fend off her ex-boyfriends.
Its broken my heart that film hasn't achieved Distribution after screening so well in four different countries and winning three festivals, so the idea of a Video Game would be a massive consolation, and it has that potential. The film has been described as a 'cult-movie' already and so the concept and narrative, look and style is already there.
I'd certainly be interested in and ideas or help of who I could get in touch with?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Your sincerely,
Richard Harrison

Thanks Paddy, that's top advice that I didn't know! Yep, GTA meets Tomb Raider is exactly what it is. The femme fatale in my film is stunning but totally bad, and for some reason, you still laugh when she hurts, kills or tries to kill the chumps in my film, which she does in incredibly inventive ways.
I'll get something together.
Much appreciated.
Richard

Hi Richard,
What platform are you looking to distribute on? Console, PC, mobile & tablet or all of these?
Also are you only looking for a games designer to work on the layout, concept, gameplay and structure or are you also hoping to find a a developer? I develop mobile app games, currently working on an interactive game adapted from a screenplay I wrote. I know of several places (depending on your answers to the above) where you could post this opportunity and perhaps could recommend studios that you could get in touch with.
Best,
Cleo Whittingham

FWIW, speaking as a game programmer of 17 years, you'll probably struggle to raise interest with a concept alone, unless you have a sizeable established audience for your film to cross-promote to.
Developers have ideas of their own aplenty, and the only reason to work on someone else's idea is if they get paid up front. Also be aware that GTA and TR are multi-million budgeted blockbusters (£200M for GTA), costing hundreds of man years to produce. So you'll have to keep your game small and manageable, just like an indie film. Your best strategy may be to find a team willing to produce the game if paid, get a quote, and then find investors willing to pay for it.
