INDEXDoes anyone know of a (shabby) London pub closed 1 or 2 days a week and open to filming?

I would love to find a pub to film in for 2 days ideally. Bit of a task in London! I know the City pubs are closed on the weekend but most of them are so suave they just won't work (and I probably can't afford them).
Any ideas very gratefully received!!

There are a number of pubs around East London which have been scheduled for closure. There's THE ROSE on the Highway in Wapping near Tobacco Dock (not sure if that's been knocked down already) - there's a few in that area as most of the journos moved out when The Times moved offices.

There's The Roost in Dalston, which is a former pub now set up as a filming and events venue.
You could also try the Salisbury Hotel, which has a warren of smaller rooms available for private hire around the main bar, and has been used for filming in the past. (Their website lists Chaplin and The Long Good Friday.)

Thanks guys - Alice do you know how you get in touch with landlords of closed pubs? Dave, The Roost looks a bit fancy however the salisbury looks great - thanks!

Anywhere close to demolition will be problematic - the building won't be maintained in a safe condition, may have mould or asbestos dust, plumbing won't work, cellars stripped, won't have insurance covering filming (usually), probably won't have power, so you need generators, which is just another problem if you can help it.
Try cameloteurope (housing guardians) and seeing if they've got any pubs about to be accommodated? Their inventory switches around fast, but they'll effectively make sure you have somewhere usable. But there's no point kicking the tyres now for a shoot in 3 months as they'll have filled it ASAP - I worked on a film that was written about a great location which vanished before we could get in there, so ended up being relocated and renamed accordingly! It won't be free, but nor will an active pub.

I often see filming in The Queen Victoria Pub in Bermondsey off of Southwark Park Road. They are an actual open pub, so I'm not sure this actually fits what you are looking for, but it's definitely an old school London look ( I wouldn't associate the word suave with it, in any case :)

The Old Bell, 223 Baker Street, Enfield EN1 3LA. Just up the road from me. Closed down but according to the security sign outside has "sitters" in.

Thanks Rebecca, went to the Victoria and waiting to hear back. Thanks all for these ideas. I'm not sure a closed pub will work as it's hard to get in touch with the landlords, though The Old Bell could work if the sitters cooperate. Needs to be a working pub ie have a bar that looks real. Thanks guys!

Leyton Technical is a pub in the old Leyton Town Hall and they don't open until 4pm during the week

The "Bree Louise" Close to Euston Station, closed last week (stifles a sob), to allow for the HS2 expansion. They might let you in for a couple of days.
