Does Anyone Know of Easily Accessible Disused Ambulance and Police Cars for Use in a Short Film in South Wales?

12 years, 8 months ago - Samo Chandler

Hi,

We're a small film production company in Wales. We are shooting our latest film in February and are currently on the hunt for 1 Ambulance & 1 Police Car for our final scene. We would need them for approx. 2 days of shooting, in the Forest of Dean area.

We have a relatively small budget, but we would be interested to hear all rates, but the cheaper the better if possible. We will also be seeking finance from crowd funding soon.

If anyone has information that could help us please drop us an email at: info@tellthempictures.com

Thanks for your help.

Hi Samo,

I have a police car for hire for £300 a day including driver and no vat, as the cheapest i was quoted was £350 +vat a day. After trying to source cheap hire for a recent short film that is in post i ended up buying one and converting it at considerable expense but needed it for shooting over a longer period . I kept the car to hire out to independent film makers at a reasonable cost as i found it really difficult to get one myself. I am open to negotiation for longer periods and can be contacted by e-mail at markcollinsuk@hotmail.com. Cheers

All the police signs/badges/lights must be covered when moving the vehicle to and from locations. You must also have written permission from the local police force where you are filming with details of location permissions etc. and a contact number in case the police need to reach you at short notice. I found the local police to be very helpful as i also had replica fire arms on set for my film Rapid Intervention.

This is not an easy ask - especially for 2 days. With the Ambulance I would approach St Jonh's Ambulance Brigade. I have used them in the past for shoots. For the Police car I would pay out for art work and put stickers on a private car. The hire of a Police car alone will cost you 400 pounds a day.

Hi all, I have a follow on question. If you take this car out onto the road do you have problems with 'impersonating a police car'? Are there any laws about this? If you keep it in a garage, out of site lot etc ie private land I am sure there are no problems, unless you start actually impersonating a police officer to the public.
