Don't pay anyone as screenwriter.

1 year, 5 months ago - Max Khan

Hello everyone,

I want to share my experience. I sent a letter to try and get a manager, but they offered their executive services instead, asking for £5000 to £7500. I told James McCann about this, and he advised me not to send any money. I listened to him and stopped contacting them. I really thank James for his help.

At the same time, I want to warn all screenwriters to be careful whenever you send your script to a manager or production house.

"Don't pay anyone. As a writer, they should be paying you. Never give money to others. Legitimate people in the industry will work on commission, which means they only get paid once you've been paid."

Regards,
Max

Amen x infinity

When you hire a consultant explicitly maybe you pay, otherwise they pay. Or they receive commission. End of.

Any time, Max.

There's too many scam artists in the industry. We all have to watch each other's backs and make a noise about that we come across.

Hi James,
You’re absolutely right. These days, there are lots of scams going around, so it's really important for us to stay alert and know what's going on. Don't be afraid to talk about these scams openly so we can protect ourselves and our community. Platforms like 'Shooting People' are great because they give new filmmakers all kinds of help. Whether it's getting advice from experts or meeting other friendly filmmakers, these platforms create a supportive place for us to learn and improve.
