Ethics for requesting scripts?

9 years, 5 months ago - Alpesh Gor

Hi guys,

Having been out of the producing game for some time, I am looking to get back in this year and am now on the look out for a particular genre script.

Are there any do's and don'ts on posting for scripts on here?

I have been looking on the Script Pitch but nothing has come to my attention.

Thanks

Hi Alpesh,

I have a couple of short scripts you might like. What genre are you looking for / interested in?

Thanks for the replies guys.

This post was more to ask if there were any particular do's and don'ts when a producer is looking for scripts.

The genre I'm looking for is psychological horror.

Edozie, if you have any please feel free to get in touch. Thanks for your offer.

I ŵill also repost with a more direct request.

Hi . I have psychological horror and thriller scripts, my favourite genre. I think what I personally like is to know what money you will offer for a script if you like it or whether you are looking to option a script and for how long and what you will pay for the option.
I am not sure about etiquette but I think most people would like to know that. I am beyond giving my scripts away for nothing, a small payment nothing huge is all I ask. I suspect if you want free scripts there will be people who will reply but fewer. If you send me an email I will send you some synopses over.

So a good add that will draw my eye would be Psychological Horror Scripts wanted for short film, maximum 10 pages, few locations, 5 characters or feature film 100-120 pages, 10 characters , few locations. Will pay up to £200 or £1,000 or whatever. Send synopsis to me at (email address)
or looking for collaboration, would any script wrtiers have a script that we can work on together and there will be deferred payment of x, contract offered for the option.

Hi Jane, thank you for your helpful reply.

I fully agree with what you say about payment and time for option. Scriptwriters spend a lot of time on their art and producers need to appreciate this. The writers need to either get payment or if it's a free script to at least know when their vision will transpire to screen.

I will put up another post along the lines of what you kindly advised.

I'll also send you an email.

Thanks again.

Hi Alpesh, I agree with Jane. I would also say that it's good to send an email rejecting scripts. So often a project goes out into the ether and no one even gets back to say that they're not interested. I think, on any list of "script ethics" acknowledgement of receipt and a quick rejection letter if script is not what you are looking for.

Don't think you need worry about your approach Alpesh, keep going as you are. I've a short psychological thriller script that's dark and not for the squeamish. It's an adaptation of an Edgar Allan Poe story that has excelled in competitions - a winner in 8 of them and also an "official selection"at 21 film festivals. Best, Steve

Thanks guys for your input.

Shirley, a reply is a must for me as. I know all too well from when I apply for editing roles the annoyance of not getting a reply. Even a stock " Hi, thank you for your interest......" Is better than nothing.

Steve, is that script in production? Or are you looking for a producer? Either way, if possible, I'd be interested in reading it.
