INDEXFeature Film Budget Breakdown?
6 years, 10 months ago - Richard Harrison
Hi everyone out there!
Does anyone know of a Line Producer or Production Accountant with Producing experience who could do a budget breakdown of a feature film script for me? Paid obviously, but looking for more of a Shooting People rate rather than professional industry standard!
Thanks very much!

What approximate budget level is the film? Are you asking for a script breakdown then budget based upon it?

Hi, BTW :) Sorry, realised that came across as a bit impolite!

Dear Paddy,
Thanks for getting in touch.
I've been writing for 16 years and my first micro-budget, feature film is fast becoming a cult movie on Amazon Prime.
My next script has had more interest than any other, and right now I have a very successful U.S Independent Producer interested and he has asked for a below the line budget.
I wrote the script based on the locations I know and what I can achieve as a Director because I have a lot of Producing experience from my first film in Spain, and the location costs are incredibly cheap.
A Line Producer did read the script about a year ago and said she's be surprised if you couldn't make it for about £1m or slightly less. So, I am looking for someone to read the script and do a budget that I can send off to America and to a Producer here for a below the line cost.
The ideal amount to make this film would be about £3m, £1m approx production and the rest for cast etc.
Does this sound like something you might be able to help with?
Regards,
Richard

Hi
I did a years Production Accountancy post-graduate diploma with the NFTS so I could help you out with a full draft budget.
The one we compiled for the coursework was in the £3m range which is kinda the base level for when your budgeting cast/crew to union rates. Can send this as an example if you like too. Drop me a line if you're interested

Hi Richard,
If your first line producer is able, I'd suggest taking her figures. She's already familiar with it. I'd love to help - a full budget is a 2 week job to do full breakdowns (so isn't that cheap, but whoever creates it will usually stand by it), and I'm not going to have time to do that for you this side of Christmas.
I'd be wary of spending £2M above the line if you're only spending £1M below, btw - that level of unbalance can work against you when you have high insurance premiums and hotel bills for stars and are paying crew below scale it can lead to poor relationships. And if you're going cheaper BLTL then you might get poor value from the star talent too (especially as you have only maybe 22 shooting days).
PM me if you want an actual price, and I can give you another LP who may be able to help before Christmas if that helps. Again, he'll need a fee, but probably lower than I'd need to ask you for right now as I'm off overseas on a show for a couple of months :)
