INDEXFestival strategy - any advice on the best UK Short film festivals to consider?
6 years, 5 months ago - Tommy Winchester
Hi All,
I've recently helped produce a short film which we're just tweaking in the edit at the moment (all very exciting).
After completion, the next step we'll be considering is which festivals to submit the film. I know there are various lists and niche festivals, but I wanted to hear some advice on what the community thought were the best short film festivals (in their experience) in the UK.
I appreciate there are various levels of festival, for instance the ones that qualify you for BAFTA, however I'm most interested in short Film Festivals that are new, quirky and boast an exciting program (i.e. Underwire). The more suggestions of this ilk the better! :)
Thank you,
Tommy
NB. For reference, my short is a drama under 15 minutes long.

Hi Tommy - Short Film Reviews Festival in London in June will be a varied international festival. It doesn't have a theme, but the bonus/USP is that you can have a review on the SFR website whether selected or not. Submit via Film Freeway, or via www.shortfilmreviews.video/submissions and get £5 off. What's not to like?

Hi Tommy,
Some of the most exciting short film programmes that come to mind are:
London Short Film Festival
Glasgow Short Film Festival
Leeds Internlational Film Festival
Outside of the UK, I would also investigate Cork Film Festival which traditionally has very unique and fun short film programmes.
Best of luck with the submissions!
Colm
