Festival strategy. I have a psychological horror short in post. Anyone used companies like Festival Formula? Is it worthwhile or better to go alone?

I'm new to submitting to festivals and am just debating the best way to approach fests.

Any reading or advice would be great.

Take a look at the horror section of Film Freeway first and see the wealth of genre festivals available to you. https://filmfreeway.com/festivals/curated/horror You need to budget for about £600 per year for entry fees, so take a careful look or you can get carried away entering all over the place. Festival Formula or the Film Festival Doctor (both well respected and used by many) will ask for a fee on top of entry fees, but that could save you money by avoiding entering festivals that aren't right for you. They know the taste and reputation of the festivals and your selection rate may be higher as a result.
