INDEXFilm Sales Agents

We are in Pre-Production of an independent low budget movie and seeking a FILM SALES AGENT, along with their costs of distribution and promotion.
We are looking at an extensive online release in 2024, as well as, a limited cinema release (London & South East) and Festival entries (UK, Europe & Canada).
We have already emailed 54 major AGENTS with hardly any replies.
Can anyone help or advise us on engaging services, please?.

Hi Paul,
Chances are you're going to need to show those people some footage, preferably have the whole film made. If you have anyone of name-value involved (in-front of or behind the camera) will also help.
If we go to an agent and say, "We've got a buddy movie starring Jay and Paul," no one will care. Have the same meeting and say, "We've got a buddy movie starring Rock and Kevin Hart," it's going to be a very different meeting.
How long ago did you email these people?
I know it's frustrating, but when we email these people (I'm guilty of it, too) we have to remember that they have hundreds of emails to get through, whereas we might only have the one project.
Also, maybe look at not-major agents. The big agents will be playing with serious money, that comes from seriously big films starring seriously major names attached.
Again, without knowing anything about your project, be realistic about where you stand in the grand scheme of things right now.
How many films do you guys have under your belt already? How big are the names involved? What is the budget of the film?
These things will tell you how likely you are to get a response from certain agents.

Hi James
Many thanks for the response. Your message makes a lot of sense. I appreciate and understand your advice. This is our first film and is a very low budget independent attempt, with unknown actors and crew. However, we intend to create a high quality "Netflix" worthy film. Primarily, my little organisation has been based within the theatre sector and recently finished a tour of the the stage version. But the play is ideal to convert into a "Movie" that would be commercially viable to distribute.
My email to the big 54, about distribution and promotion, was a preliminary enquiry to establish their fees and costs. This would complete our budget analysis to conclude the financial requirements. Our next step is to find the funding for the project
(Approximately £40,000) and then film during Autumn 2023. Then formally approach Sales Agents in 2024. If you email me at hello@subgreyproductions.com I would be happy to forward you the email I sent, to demonstrate my enquiry and basic questions. I sent them a couple of weeks ago and received only three replies. Suffice to say, they were not interested, but failed to answer my questions about costs.
Though we are new to this, we are realistic and understand the huge hurdles in our way. But we have a project, the product and the unknown talent, to produce a film that would stand up against most of current offerings within the mainstream. We are a tenacious and determined group. But we are aware that this won't be easy. Hence why we have attempted to "Network" with the industry. So, any help you can provide, would be valuable and point us in the right direction.
