INDEXfilming and legalities in a conflict zone

Hi, I'm going to Ukraine and will be in variety of different places with my kit and footage. Can anyone please advice in case "armed military group with no insignia" wanted to confiscate our kit/footage? Would there be any insurance cover if the country officially declares war status, marshal law or similar? Most insurance companies don't cover for it but if the status changes while Im in the country, will I be still covered? If so would I need evidence of my equipment being confiscated, recorded on GoPro or mobile phone to prove it? I am asking this, after noticing what happened to the NRK crew in Crimea last week. Many thanks

Do you have money? If so, Reaching4Stars offer a range of services for media companies including pre-warzone briefings, personal protection, and 'get me home now' rescue teams. Might be worth talking with them for advice (and they may know a mad insurer who'd cover this) - Mark Cowan is the guy I spoke to there, a few years back, mind.

You need specialist cover. Normal travel insurance would not normally cover anyone doing anything (esp sports or business related) that they should know is more risky than normal travel, even if the country status is OK.
You won't get paid out for a skiing accident on a normal policy, and any new claim that starts "I was filming some people outside a military base in Crimea last week...." will generate nothing but chortles in the claims office :-)
I'd take a look at http://www.versatileinsurance.co.uk/high-risk-travel-insurance.php
