INDEXFilming in Leake Street - legal graffiti street in London
12 years, 2 months ago - Stuart Hall
Has anybody ever shot down in Leake Street underneath Waterloo station?
I hear its one of the only legal graffiti places in London?
I know that Old Vic tunnels used to own that bit, but they shut down at the end of March so was just wondering whether it was a free for all or still had to ask permission?
It would just be me, 2 camera operators and a dancer for an hour or so. Do you reckon we could guerrilla it or do they have armed guards or nonsense like that?
Thank you!

I shot down there just over a year ago, did it guerilla-style for a project, about an hour shoot in the evening and didn't have any issues. However, may be better safe than sorry - would probably be Lambeth as local council if you want to get permission.

You can always remove some other graffitti, film yourself doing that and if you get any trouble you have camera evidence of yourselves removing graffitti. Is removing graffiti a crime? When you have removed the graffitti, paint what you want over it, then remove it again. This is what we did for one shoot. The worst that can happen is they try to prosecute you for removing graffitti which would probably just get laughed out. We basically found and removed some shit graffiti, not nice artistically done stuff which we left.
