INDEXGive me notes on a music video?
5 years ago - Matthias Sundberg
Hi!
I have a music video that I think I'm about 90% there. I'm fairly happy with it, but also feel like that's me being my own biggest fan.
A little background on it:
- It's a spec video done during quarantine, meant* to ape early German expressionist silent films
- The stars shot for me and I directed remotely (via Google Hangouts and detailed notes)
- editing, animation and effects were all done by me, and I'm NOT a VFX person.
Notes that I'm looking for:
-does it flow properly?
- do the effects feel correct?
- does it work as pastiche?
- any other notes
EDIT: The private link to the video is here:

I was curious about the video and wanted to give advice, but you posted no link. Are you sharing it privately? It could be interesting to read other's comments as well and create a discussion.

I mean, I guess I can share it here. It's a private video on Vimeo, simply because the musician hasn't seen this version yet. But sure I can pop it in here in an edit of the post.

Overall it flows fine, although could do with being a bit snappier on the actions/reactions between characters.
But my main note would be the intro. It's about 40s too long, has no music and doesn't add anything. Cut that and put the credits at the end.

watched it. very nice! I really like the idea and the making. congrats.
for improvements: I agree with Paul's comments. In truth, I'd say that credits are not really necessary, but if you want to put them in, like Paul says, better at the end, and for sure faster, like literally a split second.
I would just keep the title and have the music started before the first image - if you follow the advice about a snappier edit, you can maybe manage to squeeze the intro as well in the song itself so you don't need to cut it altogether. especially the beginning can be told in a more immediate way.
again, congrats for the ideas and break a leg.

Guys, thank you so much! This is definitely helpful. Probably things I was leaning towards, but needed someone else to say, too.
Thank you!
