Good places for stock footage?

9 years, 3 months ago - Ellen Alberti

I am looking for more websites to get stock footage from, where are some good ones to look at and use? Preferably free content but anywhere would be great.

I've used pond5.com and find the prices reasonable. They've also got a public domain section, free to download and use.

I've also got some pond5.com footage.
There are lots of 'royalty free' footage sites, just google it. Be aware that the 'free' usually only means free if you aren't making any money out of it. Read all the license agreement info before you use anything in your film, or pay any money.
If you are making a short film, then it is likely you can get something that will fit for free, or for a very small cost. Anything longer you will likely have to pay.

I recommend Video Blocks - it's 100 dollars a year but there's loads on there.

Dissolve.com is great to navigate and it generally isn't flooded with poor quality footage. The downside is there are three set price bands ($49 $79 $299) and they don't really have any decent loyalty/bulk buy scheme.

If you are short on time I found their site useful, their search brings up relevant footage (where some other stock sites struggle) and their downloadable comps are great to quickly create a mockup. From here you can then generally find alternative, cheaper shots from Pond5, Shutterstock, Videoblocks, Dreamstime etc. - Also many stock footage creators have their footage on multiple sites, so you may find your $79 footage on Dissolve at £26 on Pond5 (speaking from experience!)
