INDEXGood places to find actors/actresses?

Hi,
I'm looking for an actress for a role in an ambitious 3D short to be shot 17/18 July. There's an animatic here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrU2hjGK4VA
I've tried advertising on StarNow
http://www.starnow.co.uk/Casting-Calls/Actors-wanted/Short-film/actor_and_actress_for_short_film_greenwich_1.htm
and got someone who seemed perfect, but she's now got paid work.
StarNow has worked well for me in the past, but this time it's not working out.
Where else is it worth putting notices up?

My favourite as an actress is Casting Call Pro and you can advertise for free. Lots of good people on there.

For 'sides' read 'bit of script the person will read in audition' - I think it's more an American term
CCP - I'm surprised if they haven't got back to you (tried the spam folder?) - have you called/emailed them? They're usually the ones contacting me to post jobs (and on their crew site, they seem generally on top of it. I always post paying gigs, not always well paid, but paying at least.

Casting Networks are at last letting me log in (no email notification of that though, after trying for ages a few days ago).
But: "The Casting Network only gets involved in projects that offered paid work."
Someone should point out the grammatical error...
Anyhows, their submission form is incomprehensible! What do some of these terms mean? "sides" for instance? Am I meant to fill all the fields in? Are they all public?

And still no password reminder nor registration mail from CCP.
How many hours have I now wasted on trying to cast a barmaid for a one minute role? Ridiculous.

Hi Karel,
All the above mentioned sites are good and shooting people's casting works too. I have not seen your casting come through on here and would gladly submit myself.

Hi Karel
I applied for this on Tuesday through your post on Shooters - sassy barmaid right? I'd be interested to know if you're receiving applications as I'd have thought you'd have a reasonable number through here. Otherwise I'm sure if you try CCP you'll be inundated! Cheers Jessica

I sorted out my CCP problem - it's a mail glitch. I'd created a Twitter folder in my Yahoo account to take all the Twitter garbage without actually deleting everything. What seems to happen is that some mails have a reference to Twitter buried in their headers. Yahoo Mail sees that and puts the mail in my Twitter folder, so it doesn't go into my Inbox and never appears to arrive...

Neither actress has got back to me yet. Give it time I suppose, but if they were keen...
Spotlight wants money, and they don't accept non-paying jobs.
CCP: I've just wasted an hour trying to get a password reminder, or start a fresh account. No joy. I tried last last week with no luck, and even sent a mail saying I had probs, but with no response.
Why are these sites so completely useless?

CCP turns out to be a very good service.
My shortlist ended up being one from CCP, one from StarNow, and two from here.
You have to be very specific about what you want. I would recommend you include a footer on all correspondence summarizing details about your production. The project may be important to you, but anyone applying may have forgotten who exactly you are in a week! One problem (among many) with the SP site is that once someone has applied then, unless they've made notes, there's no way for them to back-track to see what it was they were applying for. I had several ask me to remind them which project it was!

Karel,
as well as SP there is angel stages.com there a good profesional casting site, or ther is even star now but quality can be lower but some actors/actresses tend to be on multi sites.
Hope this helps.
Best of luck

Hi all,
Thanks for the helpful responses. I think I've found two possibles here on SP and will be contacting them later.
I wish I had the time to write to the others to say thanks for applying, but who does that anyway? When a shoot is imminent you have to prioritize. Right now I REALLY need an art director, and I'm having a camera crisis.
Yes Jessica, a fair number applied from here, and actually a better selection than on StarNow. However the SP site itself is terrible. The links don't work, many of them will be in blue saying 'showreel' or some such, but they link to nothing. If you try to copy n paste a url it won't let you select the text to copy it! Huh? The SP site has always been full of bugs. It makes it look amateur. If there were some commercial pressure to fix them...
However a bit of Googling and I've usually found the applicant's home page. Which is what I'd recommend anybody - get a home page / url that people can find you on, with keywords like joe bloggs actor
I'll still put something into CCP, as people's commitments always change.
Thanks again. Must dash.

there is www.spotlight.com, where if you advertise there, agents will submit their clients, it is the biggest casting webstie in UK. There is also castingcallpro.com, a lot of great actors there
