Horror Mask

3 years, 5 months ago - Richard Anthony Dunford

Looking for a prop maker to create a killer mask for a new micro indie horror. Small budget. Any suggestions, recommendations, links etc would be really appreciated.

I don't know if it will be the type of thing you're after, but we found some pretty decent masks on Etsy for a handful of shorts we will be shooting.
We found some between £10-£14, so depending on what you're looking for it might be worth a quick look (assuming you haven't, sorry if you already have).

Thanks James, yeah there's some cool stuff up there but looking for something original to avoid trademark/copyright/legal issues down the line

Ah, fair enough. We 'tweaked' somewhat.
We were careful not get anything that was obviously from other films (I've seen some shorts that use Ghostface from Scream, and it takes me out of the film entirely).

Rubberbandits style is cheap https://files.list.co.uk/images/2013/08/15/rubberbandits-040-photo-by-steve-ullathorne-c-2-lst120425.jpg ot you could do the same with some hessian. Even sew on some extra threads ot glue on some polos, spray it red, whatever feels congruous to the characters and story. Let's face it, a *real* slasher killer isn't going to get a fancy mask commissioned, so it'll look homespun...

The original Halloween mask was made from a Captain Kirk mask. They widened the eyes, painted it white and removed the eyebrows, et voila.
