How about a script discussion group in London?

9 years, 8 months ago - Nick Goundry

Hello! I'm interested in setting up a script discussion group, preferably somewhere in north London, but I'm pretty flexible. I posted on the Screenwriters' bulletin a couple of days ago and only one person replied, so for the moment I've decided to believe either nobody reads the bulletin or everyone's just painfully shy.

My plan is to get a bunch of people together for informal chats about script strengths and weaknesses in films old and new, and to really break them down to how successfully we think they work in terms of protagonist, goal and obstacles.

In my experience, having a group of people together for lively discussions makes everyone a better writer.

A bit about me: I work as a film and media journalist. I write scripts in my spare time and I sold a feature screenplay a few years ago. I've always struggled a bit with story structure and I did a six-month screenwriting course earlier this year which helped clarify many of the issues I've been working with. It would be great to get together with a group of people on a regular basis to talk about films we've admired and hated, and look at story structure in real detail. Perhaps help each other out with our own writing projects as well.

I've not really thought much about venues or how this would really work (although a pretty cool-sounding meeting place has been suggested to me in north London), but I figured this is a good way to gauge initial interest. You can reach me at nick.goundry*at*gmail.com.

Thanks,
Nick Goundry
