INDEXHow can I find a list of horror festivals?

Of course there's Google, but I wondered if SP has a list of recommended ones or something?
Thanks,

withoutabox.com lists about 1000 upcoming festivals.
You'll need to go through them all, and work it out from the festival title.

I'm a fan of Filmfreeway for this. Go to their portal, select browse festivals and then down the left hand side there are several filters and recommended lists you can choose, one of them is horror.

@ Mark - Film Freeway isn't quite like that - the filters don't list genres, only types such as shorts, documentaries, animations and so on.
However they do have a keyward search. I typed "horror" and got 1065 festivals with Horror in their title. "Ghost" brought up another 45, and "zombie" 69. Use other words too - for example none of those searches picked up Frightfest.
You can fiter out open/closed, and inside/outside USA & Canada. I guess you can specify "horror" and "United Kingdom" withiin the search to get British horror festivals.
Good luck

Hi @Glyn I was on about the horror list https://filmfreeway.com/festivals/curated/horror. This is one of the filter options on the left (further down the page). It certainly doesn't bring up all horror ones though. Just some to start off with.
The way I do it is to filer on open only, then screenplay/writing contests and short scripts if entering a short screenplay, or different options if it is a film and then typing in keywords to reduce the numbers. But yeah, unless you know the names of the festivals it is hit and miss.

Hi guys,
Thanks, I already tried typing 'horror' and as Glyn suggested got about 1000 results.
I guess what I was after is like a 'Top 12-20 most respected horror festivals' list. But I see FilmFreeway has a Gold badge and a ratings system, so that's something.

Hi Mark - seen it now! This brings a list of festivals who have paid extra to be featured on FF. This might be a guide as to the seriousness of the festival - but with 17 out of thousands, it's limited.
Gives a good indicator of more keywords to search for though. I would not have thought of searching for "Boobs and Blood", seeing as we live in the 21st century. (I'm waiting for someone to put on a "Balls and Blood" festival.)

I noticed Boobs and Blood too! I guess it does what it says on the tin...
