INDEXHow can I find the right Producer for my second feature film?
8 years, 7 months ago - Martyn Tott
Hello, I am seeking advice on finding a Producer with proven experience/success in drama films. I have just released my first feature length film 'Hunters Lodge' (Vimeo on demand) and am in the process of developing the next one.
Made from start to finish without a budget Hunters Lodge is getting some great reviews. I had to do it all myself first time round (write/direct/shoot and edit) but I enjoyed it loads and it's been a good calling card already.
Some established actors like it enough to want to see new scripts/projects from me so I need to team up with a like minded Producer who has achieved some success already and might know people with financial contacts to take this forward. Most of my stories are present day character based so we aren't talking huge budgets.
Has anyone got advice/had experiences on how best to find the 'right' Producer?
Thanks,

Participating in these forums is helpful - you'll see a couple of people have posted soliciting projects recently, including Peter Fraser who I've worked with in the past.

In addition to someone with proven experience, is the element of someone who you get on with and sees your vision the same as you do. So there's a number of boxes you may need to tick to find the 'right' producer. The 'right' producer on one project may not be the 'right' one on the next. You'll have to talk to a few and get a feeling for what personalities there are out there.

Thanks for the responses and PM's. Relationships definitely get tested throughout the process of film making, even good friendships get strained so thanks for emphasising the need to get that personality mix right up at the top of that list (then the vision compatibility etc). I wasn't sure how involved Producers get as I've only had to handle it all myself up until now on 'no budget' flicks. I expect that's something that needs to be agreed at the start but no doubt there's overlaps. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
