INDEXHow can I gain access to writer's room jobs?
2 years, 11 months ago - Tilly Upton
Hi Shooters!
My name is Tilly and I'm about to graduate from my MA in screenwriting and need your help! As I'm obviously new to screenwriting I would love to gain experience as either a writer's assistant or an assistant position in a writer's room. Can anyone point me in the right direction to getting access to this kind of work? Many thanks in advance

Hi Tilly,
Congrats on graduating and the best of luck going forward!
Accessing these positions can be tricky and quite often they are held by writers already familiar with the production companies or agents.
I would suggest to research the film/Tv production companies for any jobs they post or simply find a way to express your interest and share your experience with them. If you are completely new to it and lack any experience, consider building on that in another way first and connect with smaller indie production companies to build on your CV.
Recently, seen via twitter, Salon Pictures had open positions.
All the best!

Maybe contact the BBC's Writers' Room and ask if there are any openings for script readers? They must get thousands of script submissions per year, meaning lots of readers employed. A position there would get your foot in the door.
