INDEXHow do I set out on finding work either as B Cameraman or B DOP on a feature film?

Hi shooters
I am a London based filmmaker and I have experience on low budget short film productions but never worked for a feature film.
My knowledge is on camera and lighting as well as video editing as a side hassle.
I am very positive that someone or some may have asked this before but I would love to hear your opinion and expertise on the subject!
Where do I need to start on finding work either as an Assistant Cameraman or Assistant DOP within the UK/ Greater London?
I truly value your opinion, guidance and mentoring!
Kindest Regards

Two routes. One go to film school. Shoot lots while at film school, make contacts while at film school. Then, when you graduate you will have a reel and contacts that will get you work as a DOP. Other route: get work as a Camera Trainee and work your way up through the grades. Get known, do lots of networking. I'm afraid a lot of it is who you know and being in the right place at the right time. How do you become a trainee? Be a runner, get to know camera crews, tell them you want to be trainee. Or get a job in a rental house, get to know camera crews, tell them you want to be a trainee. Work on lots of shorts as this will give you experience, improve your skillset and you will meet people. Do more networking. Never stop networking.

By the way, by the look of your profile page you are going in the right direction. Keep shooting shorts and apply for everything. Shorts, Music Videos for unsigned bands, spec commercials etc.

Hi Mark
first of all, I am so sorry for my late response.
Your advice is very much appreciated and after while trying to find where I start with this, I tend to believe that networking is a must. I am a bit shy because I don't really know, according my knowledge, where I fit exactly in the industry but I would love to start up as a trainee and grasp the opportunity.
Only if I make a start on this I will get a real grasp of things and meet new exciting people.
Thanks for all your wisdom and motivating words.
Kindest Regards
