Hey, I saw a picture of the moon on the front page - it easy very striking
Does anyone know how much newspapers pay for front page photography?
Has anyone had any pictures published by newspapers?
How does it work?
Thanks,
Ramsey

I see. £368 is pretty good deal for The Times! Thanks Richard and Joe

You have to call them up and negotiate with them. Bigger newspapers pay more than smaller newspapers and will pay up to a few hundred pounds but maybe thousands if the photo is very newsworthy and no other photographers had got the same picture.
Lots of photographers clearly took similar photos of the moon.

Newspapers have fewer payrolled photographers these days and use stock agencies for their photos. Some trusted professional photographers have exclusivity deals with sites and have their photos fast tracked through approval to have editorial photos online within minutes of shooting for current events. The Times for example heavily uses Getty Images, If you check out their UK site (http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/) the home page has examples of current events photos for sale including the Supermoon photo The Times used for their front page on Monday.
You can check out the costs yourself by playing with the licence purchasing options.

So for example the licence to print the above moon photo on a Newspaper front page with up to a million copies printed (+web use) for up to a month would cost £368.
