INDEXHow much is a fair rate for a colourist?

I'm in the process of budgeting a 45" spec commercial. How much would a fair daily rate be for a colourist?
Please consider I'm not providing kit, the job is supposed to be done in a single day, and spec commercial means there is no real client (but we are trying to attach a small one to reduce the expenses).

Going to depend a lot on whether you just want the person, or also the colouring suite (and what quality suite and results you want!).

Hi Paddy, I wouldn't be providing anything and I'd need a result with quality comparable to industry standards. It shouldn't look worse than what's usually commissioned on "real" jobs

You can easily pay North of £400/day for a colourist plus suite hire. I would suggest going down to your favourite facility and getting them to quote for wet hire which might be cheaper. You might be able to get a deal for them to use a supervised assistant working up. You want to go to a proper facility as they'll have properly calibrated reference monitors etc.
