how to focus pull with dslr

4 years, 4 months ago - Yassin Rozeman

hello!

I am a young filmmaker who has never used a dslr properly for a film. I have a Canon 650d and I would like to make a simple short film (mainly to get to grips with the technology) It is a film of my dad going on run and is to be filmed in the style of an Alan Clarke tracking shot. My issue is that No 1. I want to use a steadicam rig properly (which I don't yet have). and I would like to know how people shoot while moving/tracking and still keeping everything in focus.

If you have expertise in these things I would love to hear from you! I basically need someone to teach me these things in person - this will only take an afternoon.

I am willing to pay for your travel and maybe a bit extra.

Pulling focus can be tricky with a DSLR, rather with stills lenses, which aren't meant for it. You might be better off with a long depth of field, which is easier on a bright day, and then just attempt to keep a fairly fixed distance from the subject and trusting!
