Hi there,

You can add your film to vimeo and have it password protected, which means it's only accessible to those who you allow. This is the way most filmmakers submit links to festivals when they don't want their film to be public and in violation of certain premier rules. This should solve your problem.

Helen is correct. Also, check the T&C's of the competition. Some specify that you can only enter if it has not been showcased anywhere else, including online. Most however don't have such stipulations.

Hi,
It is not only festival consideration that that should be your concern. If at some time you wish to sell your short film, then nearly all potential buyers if not all, will pass on acquiring the rights to a film that is already freely available on YouTube, Vimeo (with a password) is deffo your best option. I would put a passcode on it as I do this so potential distributors can look at it without the film being, "Released"

Thanks for all the useful advice - I appreciate it and will go down the vimeo route with a password on it
