Most cameras record sound, usually poorly, but by adding an external microphone like a shotgun mic held just out of shot, the results will be much better.

Yes, don't rely on camera sound. The camera can be HD ,SD, UHD--- all cameras need to use external sound. No matter what the picture quality is, you will lose your audience if the sound is bad.
