INDEXI'm looking for a script writer for an idea I have for a feature film.

Hi all,
At this point it's very much an idea in it's early stages, it's based on a true story but can be embellished somewhat to suit the screen.
I'm looking for a writer to help my put my ideas onto paper as I can not write, although I am good at editing a script once it's in front of me.
So a little bit about the film, as I say it's based on a true story of a friend of mine who has Body Dysmorphia and Depression (as well as other mental health issues) and had a very troubled upbringing. I want to tell his story. So ideally I need a writer who has some level of knowledge of mental health issues, either directly (they've had/have issues themselves) or indirectly (have written about these sorts of things before).
As this is a very niche subject so I think we may struggle to get a decent distribution deal but I have seen films of a similar nature. I will approach charities that deal with such issues to help with investment and support but that's a long way off yet.
So a bit about me, my regular job is as a DoP and photographer, but I also Produce films when the right project comes along. I'm looking to be the Director on this project so I will find a Producer separate to myself. I've worked on a number of shorts films and feature films now so I'm reasonably experienced at make films, but I've never directed anything narrative before.
Essentially my question is, where can I find a writer who will be prepared to work for free, at this point? Ultimately I want to get the film fully funded so I can pay people key crew a wage and points and other crew with NLW.
Kind regards,
Michael Spry

My take, don't limit yourself to writers with knowledge/experience re mental health issues.
You want a writer who can write damn fine drama.
The fact that they then need to do homework is a plus as they come with the eye of the ignorant viewer.
The questions they find themselves asking are the same ones the audience needs answering.
Of course you are asking for a LOT of a writers time on spec, so you will need to show that you have some real prospects of funding, or that at least you know what the process is to try and get it. That you can at least get to pitch to the right people.

Hi Marlom,
Thanks for your reply, it's very helpful. You are probably right about finding a decent writer over a writer with certain experiences.
I think perhaps where I should go from here is to look for a Producer who can help me make a pack up for distributors and writers to gain a level of interest. With interest from distributors it will help attract writers and then actors to the project.
