I'm looking for feedback on a recently completed short film...

Hi

I'm looking for feedback on our latest short film.

Title: Rainbow Valley: The Quest for a TV
Genre: British comedy drama
Synopsis: A young boy living in a remote hippy community goes in search of a TV, after he finds out Terminator 2 is premiering.

We made this as a stand alone short film but also as a proof on concept as I have a feature script already written.

The plan is to try and raise some investment for the feature film.

It would be great if you could give the film a watch and let me know what you think.

If you also have any advice on gaining investment, that would be really helpful as I assume this is very hard!

Thank you
Miro

Hi Miro
I enjoyed the film - well done for getting it made. I'm assuming you don't want comments on the actual film as it seems pretty locked. Some lovely shots in there. I felt the boy going to school undermined the spirit of the community a bit.... but maybe that's something you go into more in the feature. I like that the boy is inspired by Arnie's macho-ness and is also taking on his own dad - great themes there for further unpacking - so the film is clearly a good taster of a bigger concept. One concrete suggestion I would offer - for you to consider or ignore as you see fit - is that the title doesn't sound like the title of a short film currently. It's too detailed somehow.... I wondered if there was something more 'metaphorical', that captures the spirit of the boy's desire in a less brass tacks way if you see what I mean.... Maybe even just 'Terminator 2, Saturday 7.45' or something??? Happy to communicate further about it if you think it would be useful. Thanks for sharing your film - v inspiring! Catherine

I felt this was a very well made film because I quickly became engaged with the story and was never conscious of cuts or the edges of the frame or technical limitations - perhaps there wern't any or perhaps the story and acting were enough for me to miss them. I did feel that it presented a romanticised view of life. The father readily accepted the tale about the £5 for the olive oil, aquiesced to the TV rather quickly, and the weather was always dry and balmy. It was a beautiful example of events delineating character. Great acting from all concerned, except perhaps from the father who was rather hampered by the script in that he couldn't lay down the law as I think he would have done in real life, recalling my own experiences of growing up!
