8 years, 5 months ago - robert jackson

Hello everyone. Im looking to pay someone to teach me basic documentary / short film making in central london, is anyone interested?

Im happy to pay per hour / day and im open to suggestion in terms of how much. im in london so it would be best if you are too. im looking for someone with portfolio of work they can show me. Im interested in learning all aspects but maybe starting with editing & storey telling. It would be good if you were available to meet and at least one day per week. This would be an ongoing project. I plan to do a course and learn as much as i can online but im also looking for someone to train me. Im English, in my 30s and i have almost no experience. Looking forward to hearing from anyone who is interested in being involved.

Cheers
Rob

Hi Rob, why not have a look at courses run by bodies like Raindance. The fact you'll be with others is a huge plus as they'll all be at different stages, different experiences, so you can quickly end up working with others. Film is fundamentally social, it involves teams, so it may be better value than paying for tutoring, and give you a broader base.

I studied at the City Lit - they do a reasonably priced course 1 day a week - there's a general Film School and a specialist Documentary Filmmaking course. I did both and you can learn all the basics on either - and you get to make your own film by the end of the course.

Four Corners is still going I think, they run cheap courses.

Hi Robert,

I run Action On The Side, which is a collaborative project where you get to develop your filmmaking skills by making a short film in a month. Our next project is in June. This may be the best option for you; you get to learn filmmaking by being on-set. Check out our website for details: actionontheside.tv
