I'm thinking of investing in a DSLR a cheaper model to start but then hopefully moving up so my question is Nikon vs Canon what are peoples views?

I'm thinking of investing in a DSLR a lower model such as a D90 or 650d. Eventually I'd be looking to invest more and get a better one( 5d or D800) but for now I just want to get something I can afford. Considering at sone point I'd be buying lens and accessories etc. I think it's probably good to start as I mean to go on, in which case in the Nikon vs Canon debate where does everyone stand?

The new Nikon D5200 is looking incredible! I looking at swapping my 60D for one. http://www.eoshd.com/content/9713/nikon-d5200-vs-canon-5d-mark-iii.

For cheapness, you can't beat a Canon 550D + Tamron constant aperture f2.8 zoom lenses.

Or if you baulk at paying for a posh lens, spend £5 on a M42-to-EF adapter, which will allow you to use old Pentacon lenses, which can be picked up for under £20 on ebay.

You can pick up a manufacturer refurbished Canon 550D body for around £290 on ebay, often offered by seller digigood

When you get it, install the invaluable Magic Lantern free software - it gives zebra / peaking / manual audio control and level meters.

Nothing beats Canon 550d/600d/650d for value. Shoots beautiful pictures and video. Nikon shoots slightly better pictures in high ISO but the video just sucks.
