One of my short films, has the same title as another earlier film, made in another country, I have seen that, no one can claim copyright to a title of a film? however the cinematographer involved with the film would like it listed on IMDb but owing to confusion over the title, we are thinking of adding the year it was made after the title, would this be acceptable for IMDb rating?

Hi Moira, in my experience IMDB does this automatically. Ie there are loads of films with the same title. When you input the title, IMDB will automatically add the year, and a roman numeral marker like 'I', 'II' 'III' 'IV' etc after the title, if there is already another film with the same.

As Cath mentioned it above, IMDb does this automatically. There are many films with the same titles on IMDb. Don't worry about it. Just add the title and the date when it was released and that's it. You don't have to put it next to the title. You just have to add the release date in the release date section. I have a short called Alternative. It shows up as Alternative (2018), but there is also an Alternative (2008) short by someone else. I didn't have to put the date in the title, it's automatic. Good luck!

Thanks for letting me know we won a raft of awards for my short film, and the cinematographer is keen to get it listed

The short answer to your question is: The Awakening. The most common film title ever; used dozens and dozens of times going back to 1909.
