Hi all,
I've been a director for a few years and believe that directing is a skill you should always be finding ways to improve.
If you’re of the same mindset, I'm putting together a small group of directors(and DPs) to help each other in that continued learning process.
The idea is to pick a film and get together to discuss how we think it's directed: blocking, camera position, shot composition etc. What was good, what was bad, how you would have done it better.
I'd aim to meet for a few hours once a month looking at a different film each month. (In London)
I'd say five people is a good group size.
The prerequisites are a desire to take the time to study the film, turn up with an informed opinion and be open to listening to other's opinions.

Hi Declan, I am a script supervisor not a director. Last year I was working on some short projects and I felt there was a slight confusion among young directors what a script supervisor is/does. I'd be happy to join the group and talk about my job, explain how I help a director to shoot her/his idea and I can help with discussing angles, camera positions etc. On the other hand I myself would appreciate to meet directors' approach more and learn their mindset better so I can improve from my professional side more. This sounds like a really interesting idea.
I'm an aspiring director with a couple of shorts under my belt - I haven't yet made something I'm satisfied with and would really love the opportunity to learn from more experienced directors. You say you're trying to keep the numbers low so I understand if you're looking for experienced directors only, but I would love to be a fly on the wall! Am based in South East, not far from London.

Learning to direct is something that I have been pondering over for a while, and I hope that this will be an opportunity to learn more about it.
I have been working on script writing for a while (none produced) and learning to direct might be a better way for me to progress further.
