Is WeTransfer still safe to use after the AI clause mess?

3 weeks, 6 days ago - Tina Walker

I've just clocked the new WeTransfer T+Cs - specifically the bit where you “grant them a transferable, sub-licensable licence” to your files, with talk of derivative works and AI thrown in. They’ve maybe seemingly U-turned on the AI stuff but there's still not enough clarity for me - and I can't lie, the trust is a bit broken... Response wasn't great from them seemingly: https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/wetransfer-terms-conditions-ai-artificial-intelligence-b2789452.html

Feels like another example of a tool we all rely on quietly shifting the rules. Has anyone actually changed what they're using to send footage? Looking for something that doesn’t feel like I’m handing over rights just to upload a file. Suggestions welcome - especially from people sending big exports or archive regularly.

Hi,
Interesting. Yesterday I used Filemail to send stuff (because they let you send up to 5Gb, not 2) and there was a statement about them never using your files for any purposes etc.
I shan't be using WT ever again.

Why risk it. Not one AI company is using their own content as source with appropriate rights exclusively. I have 0 confidence We transfer would reframe from using your material just because they said they wouldn't.

Yes, they could say they'd refrain* from using it but not, and we'd be none the wiser.
